Hidden Figures

Fri. 2/24 - Fri. 3/3

(PG) 2 Hrs. 7 Min. (Digital) In English (Drama)

Nominated for three Academy Awards ~ Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress (Octavia Spencer) ~ Hidden Figures is the incredible untold story of Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughn (Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe), three brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history. The unsung heroines were behind the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation’s confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world. The visionary trio crossed all gender and race lines to inspire generations to dream big.
“An assertion of humanity and civil rights that is pure cinematic nourishment for soul.” -- Katie Walsh, Tribune News

The Body Positive:  Learning How to Embrace Your Authentic Self

Thurs. March 2

The State is proud to partner with therapist, author and public speaker Signe Darpinian and The Body Positive in bringing a life-affirming event to Modesto.  Come and learn to love your body and live  your life with The Body Positive co-founder Connie Sobczak, author of Embody: Learning to Love Your Unique Body (and quiet that critical voice!).   Connie will introduce the five competencies of the Body Positive model which have helped countless people move away from lives consumed by body dissatisfaction toward the pursuit of fulfilling their dreams and life purpose. The Body Positive has been a leader in the movement to prevent eating problems and improve the self-image of youth and adults since 1988.  You will take away the tools you need to let go of the harmful and sometimes life-threatening attitudes about your body, and learn to embrace your magnificent, authentic self.

General admission: $10
Doors and reception at 5:30 p.m.
Program at 6:30 p.m.
