Tomorrow
Tomorrow: All Over The Globe, Solutions Already Exist

Sat. April 22

(Doc) 1 Hr. 58 mIn. (Digital) In English (voiceover)

In honor of Earth Day, The State is screening this inspiring and  upbeat environmental documentary that offers concrete solutions to some of the major issues facing the world. French actress and director Mélanie Laurent became increasingly aware, of several leading scientists’ reports stating that man’s environmental impact on the planet had reached a critical stage, which could threaten human life as we know it.   Laurent teamed up with Cyril Dion to make TOMORROW, a documentary about our environmental and social challenges.  The film’s incredible success lies in their choice not to frighten — though the facts are sobering — but to inspire; to go beyond the disaster scenarios, and share concrete solutions as implemented by hundreds of communities around the world.  Traveling to 10 countries, from the urban farms of Detroit to an English town that mints its own David Bowie currency to encourage local spending, from a completely sustainable village in southern India to the progressive schools of Finland, Laurent and her colleagues introduce viewers to people making a difference in the fields of food, energy, finance, democracy, and education. Their shared ideas and examples make TOMORROW one of the most essential and unexpectedly inspirational viewing experiences of our time.
“Required viewing for anyone wondering what they could do to pitch in and save the planet.  Given the onslaught of bad news that’s been hitting the world this year, it’s nice to see that some people are taking matters into their own hands, dishing out vibes both positive and worthwhile.”  — Hollywood Reporter

Renewing contact with his initially distrusting family, Ryota struggles to take back control of his existence and find a lasting place in the life of his young son - until a stormy summer night offers them a chance to truly bond again. After the Storm crosses cultural lines to offer timeless observations about parental responsibilities, personal bonds, and the capacity for forgiveness.
“Watch and listen closely ... and worlds of deeply felt, awkwardly expressed passion will unfold in and around a cramped apartment in a nondescript high-rise that has aged along with the inhabitants who raised families there.” ~ NPR
