The Zookeeper's Wife

Fri. 4/14 - Fri. 4/28

(PG-13) 2 Hrs. 6 Min. (Digital) Biography, Drama, History

Starring two-time Academy Award nominee, Jessica Chastain, and Golden Globe nominee, Daniel Bruhl, The Zookeeper’s Wife—based on the best-selling book of the same name, which is in turn based on true life events—tells the story of Antonina and Jan Żabińska, who together managed Poland’s Warsaw Zoo during World War II. When Germany invades in 1939, bringing with it the new Reich, Jan and Antonina must come to terms with their new oppressive reality, all while balancing caring for their children and animal wards. But resistance is not futile, and Antonina and her husband find their own way to protect their family and community from the violence and hatred infiltrating their country.

Jeremiah Tower:  The Last Magnificent

Fri. 4/28 - Wed. 5/10

(R-Doc) 1 Hr. 57 Min. (Digital) In English (Documentary)

After premiering at Tribeca, New York Magazine called Jeremiah "A rare, honest, and compelling glimpse into the life of a legendary chef.”  Produced by Antony Bourdain, the film covers the life of Tower, who became one of America’s first celebrity chefs and one of the most influential figures in the history of American gastronomy. Tower gained fame as a pioneer in the California cuisine movement at Alice Waters’ Chez Panisse in Berkeley, during  the 1970s and founded San Francisco’s  Stars restaurant in the mid 1980s. The original bad-boy chef, Tower was known for his Studio 54 lifestyle, over-the-top brash personality, and his public feud with Alice Waters.  Tower went on to launch his own legendary Stars Restaurant in San Francisco. Stars was an overnight sensation and soon became one of America's top-grossing U.S. restaurants. After several years, Tower mysteriously walked away from Stars and then disappeared from the scene for nearly two decades, only to resurface in the most unlikely of places: New York City's fabled but troubled Tavern on the Green. There, he launched a journey of self-discovery familiar to anyone who has ever imagined themselves to be an artist. Featuring interviews by Mario Batali, Anthony Bourdain, Ruth Reichl and Martha Stewart, this delicious documentary tells the story of the rise and fall of America's first celebrity chef, whose brash personality and culinary genius has made him a living legend.
