Amnesia
Amnesia

Opens Sat. July 22

(NR) 1 Hr. 36 Min. (Digital) In English (Drama)

Jo is a 25-year-old music composer from Berlin. He’s come to Ibiza to be part of the nascent electronic music revolution, ideally by getting a job first as a DJ in the new nightclub on the island, Amnesia. Martha has been living alone in her house facing the sea for 40 years. One night Jo knocks on her door. Her solitude intrigues him. They become friends even as the mysteries around her accumulate: the cello in the corner she refuses to play, the German language she refuses to speak. As Jo draws her into his world of techno music, Martha puts everything she had previously lived by into question.

From Hollywood to Rose

Sat. 7/22 - Wed. 7/26

(NR) 1 Hr. 24 Min. (Digital) In English (Comedy)

What Martin Scorsese's After Hours was to New York, From Hollywood to Rose aspires to be for Los Angeles, in its own lighter-hearted and whimsical way. The central figure is a middle-aged woman (Eve Annenberg) who has just run away from her wedding. Still clad in her wedding dress, she makes her way from Hollywood to Venice Beach, via the city’s notoriously unreliable bus system and along the way encounters a cast of eccentrics and social outcasts. The supporting cast of characters she encounters ranges from a well-dressed male passenger who believes he can psychically communicate with dragons to a gangster who turns out to have an acute fashion sense. With an uncanny, deadpan delivery that finds shades of pathos in the nuttiest of dialogue, Annenberg is arresting and grounds From Hollywood to Rose with a sense of recognizable humanity.
