Pleasures of the Screen and Table at the Modesto Reel Food Film Festival
MODESTO – Excellent foods and some of the best short movies about food, cooking, and eating make up the 4th annual Modesto Reel Food Film Festival. The Modesto Film Society, The State Theatre, and the Modesto Art Museum host the annual event at the State Theatre, Sunday, October 3, with a reception at 2 p.m., and program at 3 p.m. General admission is $12. The festival web site is http://modestoartmuseum.org/Food2010/index.htm.
· The locally produced Oakdale Testicle Festival, an inside look at an unusual event where everyone has a ball, directed by Kevin Fox;
· In Search of the Heart of Chocolate, a San Francisco produced movie, directed by Sarah Feinbloom, a delicious romp through the rich and creamy melt-in-your-mouth passionate world of chocolate;
· La Saint Festin (Saint Feast Day), from France, and directors Leo Marchand and Annelaure Daffis, and producer Christien Pfohl. Hurrah! Tomorrow is the 40th of November! It's Saint Feast Day, the greatest celebration of Ogres, so if you haven't caught a child yet, hurry up, and good hunting;
· What a Freegan Waste!, from United Kingdom and director and producer: Craig Rook. What is a Freegan and why are so many of them popping up all over the place? A short documentary exploring an alternative way of living off the land;
· Cravings, from Sweden and director Andreas Lindergard, explores the lust for food;
· Naturally Risen is a sensuous exploration of pizza by Michael Evans;
· From directors Meredith Arthur and Eric Slatkin comes Obsessive: Soda Pop, about a store in Los Angeles that carries more than 500 varieties of soda.
At least two of the movie-makers will introduce their own movies: Kevin Fox, and Michael Evans. The audience will vote to select the winner of the Audience Favorite Award.
The oldest and largest food film festival in California and one of only a few in the world, the festival includes a tasting reception in the lobby where guests will sample an array of foods. This year’s sponsor is the California Poultry Federation, the trade association for California's diverse and dynamic poultry industry.
Modesto is a natural place for California’s only food film festival. The Modesto area grows and produces it all from heirloom tomatoes, artisan cheeses, chickens and turkeys, honey, and olive oil, to world renown and award winning wines. The region, once known only for agriculture, is now known throughout the world as a food region with more than its share of excellent chefs, bakers, and caterers. In wine alone, Modesto produces more than any other city in the world.
Purchase tickets by calling (209) 527-4697, by visiting www.thestate.org, at The State Theatre box office Monday through Friday from noon to 3 p.m. and at the door the day of the festival. Admission is $12.
